Photography of on Site Installation | “Inner Core” Poplar Dowels | 2022
Inner Core is a sculptural work created in response to and telling the story of the healing, somatic, recovery, therapy, and reconstruction of my faith I engaged in during the 2020 global pandemic. The on-site installation was set up in a significant location, marking where I spent much of that time in reflection and transformation. The work reflects the permanence and impermanence, stability and instability, distance and intimacy we all experienced during lockdown.
This sculpture embodies the strength required to endure and transform. Through tactile engagement with solid mahogany, Inner Core makes visible the thick, substantial core that develops when we courageously surrender, receive love, and strengthen our spiritual, emotional, and physical resilience. It is also a self-portrait—a reflection of the courage, inner fortitude, and growth that carried me through the crisis and continues to guide my life, work, and creative practice.

Themes of impending betray, friendship & agony.
Maundy Thursday is the day before Good Friday. Maundy is from the Latin word mandatum meaning command. It commemorates the night before Jesus died, when He shared the Passover meal with His closest friends and followers. Jesus washed the feet of His followers and commanded that we love one another in the same way
After the feast, Jesus spent harrowing hours in waiting, asking the disciples to come alongside him in prayer. Kneeling down in His place of secret prayer, the Mount of Olives, He prayed three times, "Take this cup of agony away." As we all have, the disciples betrayed Him and deserted Him in His hour of need.

Themes of emptying out, preparation & generosity; Inspired by Holy Wednesday.
On Holy Wednesday we remember Jesus' visit to Bethany when Mary anointed His head with oil and Judas began making his plans to hand Jesus over to the chief priests.
We, like Mary, are invited to empty our "alabaster jars" and make space for the transformational death & resurrection. As she prophetically anointed Him for His impending burial, we are invited to continue to give generously.

Themes of crucifixion, holy sacrifice & conviction.
Good Friday is the day Christians remember Jesus’ death. The “Good” reflects how Jesus’ death was a sacrifice on our behalf so we can receive God’s forgiveness for our wrongs, or sins. Good Friday reminds us of the goodness and mercy of God in not abandoning us, but absorbing our wrong into Himself for our forgiveness.
